He was elected president of Business Professionals of America District 1, a statewide office; won the BPA National Championship in Advanced Word Processing his junior year; and placed second in state his senior year.

An AP Scholar, Lauren is the first Wells Scholar from Frankfort High School, where she was valedictorian and served as captain of the English, Fine Arts, and Interdisciplinary Academic Bowl teams. She was also active in speech and debate, theatre production, and music.

A senior at Indiana University, Internal Wells Scholar Hendrik Glauninger is majoring in biochemistry and plans further education to become a physician-scientist. As an entering freshman he participated in the Integrated Freshman Learning Experience and the Science, Technology, and Research Scholars mentored-research programs and has been a researcher in the lab of Professor David Giedroc.

An AP Scholar, valedictorian, and the first Wells Scholar from Brown County High School, Corina was co-founder and president of the Youth Education Community Team and co-president of the Spanish Honor Society. She oversaw the Peer Mentoring Team and worked on projects that served special needs students.

An AP Scholar with Distinction, Coleton graduated from Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis with an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Active in theatre and music, he was president of the school’s thespian troupe and show choir, a state thespian troupe officer, and state champion and national semi-finalist in the National Shakespeare Competition.

Hannah is the first Wells Scholar from the Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was the president of the Service Learning Leadership Council. After repeatedly spending time in the hospital from a very young age, she looked at the needs of others around her and made it her mission to inspire the healthy to engage in helping hospitals feel more like home for chronically ill children nationwide.

Victoria graduated cum laude from Santa Catalina School in Monterey, California, where she received the Alumni Award for demonstrating the spirit of excellence and values of the school. With strong interests in food and environmental sustainability and plans to go on to medical school, she volunteered in nutritional services at a local hospital, participated in a service-learning trip to Morocco, and through the R4 Environmental Club headed up efforts to replant a garden that is supplying the school’s kitchen for the first time.

Emily is the first Wells Scholar from St. Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls in Mosman Park, Australia, where she was the top student across all subjects. In the state of Western Australia, she ranked first out of 3,000 students in English literature, second in music, third in modern history, and sixth across all subjects.

An AP Scholar with Distinction and the first Wells Scholar from Fishers High School, Lauren graduated summa cum laude. During her senior year, she was a captain of the speech team, which won the state championship for the third year in a row.

Fully engaged with science and the arts throughout high school, she plans to major at IU in biology with a focus on cell biology and molecular genetics or the biology of disease and to minor in piano performance.

Damon is the first Wells Scholar from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California, where he was a National Merit Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Vice president of the Academic Challenge Club, he competed on his school’s Science Olympiad, HOSA (Future Health Professions) Bowl, and Quiz Bowl teams.

Internal Wells Scholar Claire Repsholdt, an IU senior, is completing majors in English and history and a minor in communication and culture. In spring 2016 the College of Arts and Sciences awarded her the Palmer-Brandon Prize in the Humanities in recognition of her academic achievement, intellectual ability, and commitment to the humanities.

A National Merit Scholar and a National AP Scholar, Neil was designated a Distinguished Graduate with Academic Honors by Carmel High School, where he received the Hinshaw Community Service Award and the Greyhound Booster Club Scholarship for Athletics. Active in both local and student government, he served as the president of the Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council and as a member of the school senate.

He was president of the Brebeuf speech and debate team, won the state Lincoln-Douglas Debate championship in Solo Debate, qualified for national tournaments in multiple events, was named a National Speech & Debate Association Academic All-American, and earned the Degree of Superior Distinction.

An AP Scholar with Distinction, Thalia is the first Wells Scholar from Walter Payton College Preparatory High School, where she was president of the Alternative Political Groups Club, which discussed political systems around the world, and a founding member of the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing club. She was a member of the Payton Players at her school, performing in Shakespeare’s As You Like It and directing Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and the director’s intern with Shakespeare’s Youth of Hyde Park.

A National Merit Scholar and a National AP Scholar, Tiffany was designated a Distinguished Graduate with Academic Honors by Carmel High School, where she was a member of the state champion symphony orchestra and organized two TEDxCarmelHighSchool conferences. She was active in United Sound, a program that mentors special needs students through music, and selected for Indiana’s All-State Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony Side-by-Side program.
