Biography

A National Merit Scholar and a National AP Scholar, Tom graduated from Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School with a passion for political issues and plans to major in mathematics and economics and minor in philosophy. He was president of the Brebeuf speech and debate team, won the state Lincoln-Douglas Debate championship in Solo Debate, qualified for national tournaments in multiple events, was named a National Speech & Debate Association Academic All-American, and earned the Degree of Superior Distinction. A Presidential Scholars Semifinalist, he was president of the Young Republicans Club, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance. He was a member of Brebeuf’s cross country team, which finished fifth in state his junior year; captained both the track and cross country teams he senior year; and was named to the Academic All-State Team in cross country by the Indiana coaches association. He was inspired by his experiences in debate to study economics and philosophy in order to gain the tools to tackle the world’s toughest questions.

He finds the words of Dory in Pixar’s Finding Nemo especially relevant to his life: “Just keep swimming.”

He will hold the Sherrill S. and Helen A. Deputy Scholarship in the Wells Scholars Program.
