Kaleb Mount

Hometown:
Scottsburg, IN

Biography

A National Merit Scholar, Indiana Academic All-Star, and Elks National Scholar, Kaleb is the first Wells Scholar from Scottsburg High School, where he graduated first in his class. He was president of the community Youth Grantmaking Council and named a DAR Good Citizen state finalist. Active in Academic Super Bowl, he served as captain of his school’s two-time state champion Social Studies team and of the Interdisciplinary team, which won the state championship his senior year. He discovered that competitions allowed his intellectual curiosity to flourish and gave him a sky-high goal and a load of new information. He was also president of Model United Nations, photo editor of the school paper, co-captain of the cross country team, an officer in Student Council, and a section leader in school bands. Involvement in his father’s and others’ campaigns for public office deepened his love for politics and the law, and he plans to study law and public policy at IU.

He draws inspiration from Shakespeare’s words in Hamlet: “My fate cries out/ And makes each petty artery in this body/ Stronger than the Nemean lion’s nerve.”

He will hold a Henry Hudson Wells Scholarship in the Wells Scholars Program.
