Aika is from Bloomington, Indiana, and will major in Molecular Life Science, with a language she doesn’t yet know as a possible minor. Growing up in Bloomington, she has some first-hand experience of how many opportunities IU provides students and community members. Aika started interning in a biology lab when she was only a high school student. Additionally, she immersed herself in the world of the arts by dancing in Indiana University’s pre-college ballet program since she was three years old. Her ballet instructor reminded her that age, injury, and circumstance will, at some point, end a dancer’s career: “So, enjoy the moment as much as possible!” Aika will continue to engage with IU Ballet by taking classes, watching performances at the MAC, and helping with the pre-college program during the busy Nutcracker season. At Indiana University, she looks forward to meeting new people, making great friendships, and using the wealth of resources the Wells Scholars Program provides. She is also excited to learn Korean or Russian in a classroom setting and explore Bloomington’s international cuisines. Her happy place is Japan, where she gets to spend time with her grandparents and eat delicious food. One of her favorite dishes is“fukubukuro,” a fried tofu pouch filled with meat and seasonal vegetables. Aika will hold the Ross Jennings and IU Credit Union Scholarships.
