Biography
Kathryn, a rising senior, is majoring in international studies and Spanish with a minor in near Eastern languages and cultures and a certificate in liberal arts management. During her time at IU, she is proud to have struck a stable work-life balance allowing her to engage with her community, peers, and environment beyond the classroom. This non-academic involvement has led to discoveries about her love for education and valued connections with incredibly accomplished and kind peers. She loves IU’s commitment to a global education and has enjoyed fostering leadership skills as an RA, research skills as a member of the Board of Aeons, and language skills through studies in the Hamilton Lugar School for Global and International Studies. Kathryn adores The Beatles and would jump at a chance to meet Paul McCartney in person - or to ride in the infamous Yellow Submarine! Kathryn would like to thank her parents, Tom and Anne, for their constant support and encouragement, which has allowed her to further her curiosity, cherish her public education, travel the globe, and enjoy many laughs and family dinners along the way; and her IU mentor, Professor Israel Herrera, for his support in learning the Spanish language and for opening up to her so many opportunities beyond the classroom. She will hold the William & Martha Lea Armstrong scholarship.
