Maia Law

Maia Law
Hometown:
Glencoe, IL

Biography

Maia’s favorite quote comes from acclaimed composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein: “To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan, and not quite enough time.” She anticipates having just enough time to double major in violin performance and psychology! She chose IU because the world-class Jacobs School of Music’s location within the large research university setting, allowing her to pursue both of her interests without sacrificing quality of instruction. Maia’s proudest achievement was raising over $10,000 for Sistemang Pilipino, an organization that provides music classes and lessons to children in impoverished communities in the Philippines. She is also proud to have performed internationally throughout Greece and Italy, as well as closer to home as part of the studio-in-residence of Professor Addison Teng at the Music Institute of Chicago. She would like to one day explore other international locations, particularly Barcelona, Spain and its fascinating architecture and amazing food. Her favorite three books are All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, and Americanah by Chimimanda Adichie. Maia would like to thank her parents and her violin teacher. She is the tenth Scholar from New Trier Township High School and will hold the Brad Stansberry scholarship.
