Margaret Schnabel

Hometown:
Zionsville, Indiana

Biography

Margaret, only the second Scholar from the International School of Indiana, will major in cognitive science, a field that allows her to explore her wide interests and also the connections between art and science. She already eagerly anticipates getting involved in the IU community through student publications, the Collins Arts Council, and undergraduate research – not to mention regularly getting cookies from Baked. She was recently awarded both the Hoosier Creativity Award and a Gold Key in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her original poetry, and she draws inspiration from her favorite books including Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong and On Looking by Lia Purpura. Margaret’s distinctive curly hair, favorite oversized yellow sweater, and proclivity for spontaneous puns make her easy to pick out in a crowd. Margaret would like to thank her parents for always expecting her best effort; her siblings for car rides, jam sessions, and late-night talks; her English teacher, Mrs. Erny, for endless books and for always believing in her; and the Wells Scholars Program for giving her this opportunity.

Margaret will hold the William H. Wolfe scholarship.
