Liam is proud of being nominated by his class to speak at their commencement ceremony, an honor that reflects his peers’ trust and his ability to inspire others. Guided by his parents’ kindness and compassion, Liam is driven to pursue Policy Analysis to help others. His favorite books, like Evicted and Poverty, By America, by author Matthew Desmond, have profoundly influenced his academic focus. His favorite quote is from Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of The Oppressed, “pursuit of full humanity cannot be carried out in isolation or individualism, but only in fellowship and solidarity.” This insight shapes Liam’s view of human interaction and the need to uplift everyone in the service of reaching the full potential of humanity. His Aunt Shannon’s advice about changing the system rather than merely mitigating the damage it causes has been a pivotal influence on his career goals.
Empathy and compassion are central to Liam’s values, as he believes in leading with kindness and understanding. Alongside his driven attitude towards policy analysis, Liam is passionate about the violin. His passion for playing the violin began with encouragement from his grandmother and was nurtured by his teacher, Mr. Jesse, whose example continues to inspire him.
A visit to IU, where he attended a soccer game with his dad, was a significant experience that made him feel part of the IU community and solidified his decision to join it. Liam will hold the Ed L. Hutton Scholarship.
