Poorabi, a rising senior from Bloomington, Indiana, is majoring in Political Science and History, and minoring in Geography and World Political Systems. During her time at IU, she has had the chance to participate in a diverse range of activities. Poorabi has enjoyed working as a research assistant studying Latinx voting behavior and political participation; serving as Secretary General for the Indiana Model United Nations Conference; and working with groups like the Eleanor Roosevelt Society to encourage women to participate in the fields of international relations and foreign policy. Her three favorite books are The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Given the chance to travel anywhere in the world, Poorabi would visit the ruins of Persepolis and the Roman Forum—both ancient sites of political importance in their day and age. Poorabi thanks her mother for her constant encouragement, and Dr. Vanessa Cruz Nichols, for challenging her to hone her writing and research skills. Poorabi will hold the Blaine Wiseman Scholarship.
