  • San Mi Mi Thant

San Mi Mi Thant

Hometown:
Yangon, Myanmar

San Mi Mi (she/her), from Myanmar, will join IU to study entrepreneurship with a potential double major in either computer science or economics. She is proud of having led the content creation and marketing teams for Myanmar’s first-ever youth-oriented hackathon. IU appealed to her because of the many opportunities it will give her to pursue her varied academic interests. She is most proud of having contributed to Thate Pan Hub, a non-profit social enterprise providing free computer science lessons to children in Myanmar. Her own motto is “Be brave, be humble, be fearless.” Among her favorite study abroad destinations are Cape Town in South Africa, where she hopes to learn from efforts to combat urban poverty, or Seoul in South Korea, where she would be able to perfect her Korean skills. Sam thanks her family for her endless support; she writes that the warmth of her mother’s embrace never fails to wash away “all the worries I have.” In the Wells Scholars Program, she will hold the Ruth Hickam, William D. Rhodes #2, and Class of 1952 scholarships.
