Sarah Rodenbeck

Hometown:
Fort Wayne, IN

Sarah (she/her) will be majoring in biology on a pre-medicine track. The daughter of an avid IU fan, she has cheered on IU teams since her childhood. She is proud to have received the Wells Scholarship, an honor she is not taking for granted. As a high school diver, Sarah tried doing a double twisting front flip, an accomplishment that was only possible because of the trust her teammates and her coach placed in her. Sarah has lived by the motto “You could do anything if you only dared,” a quote from Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series. The best advice she has received came from her pulmonologist, who told her to focus on becoming a doctor first and settle on a specialty later, “which made the journey to becoming a doctor a lot less harrowing” for her. She would also like to thank her eighth-grade science teacher for his faith in her. Her greatest inspiration is her sister Diana, a cancer survivor and a “living miracle”: “I want to challenge myself to push further in everything I do because that is what she does every day.” At IU, Sarah looks forward to taking her first steps into adulthood while also forging lifelong friendships. Not surprisingly, perseverance is the virtue that is most important to her. Sarah will hold the Grace/Hutton and Edward L. and Jane Alexander Hutton scholarships in the Wells Scholars Program.
