IU’s medical school and R1 resources made it a top choice for Shivam (he/him), who is excited to investigate undergraduate research in genomics while majoring in molecular life science and computer science. He also appreciates IU’s diverse degree options and encouragement for students to be flexible in pursuing multiple interests, and he is eager to take part in Overseas Study’s abundant study abroad programs. In additional to research and academics, Shivam looks forward to continuing to develop side hustles like investing and building tech products: among his proudest accomplishments are building an iOS app called Spero that utilizes natural language processing algorithms to diagnose major depressive disorder, building an IoT called Healera to modernize faucets, and organizing test prep businesses to assist his peers. His hidden talent is playing cricket, and he also enjoys table tennis, basketball, and badminton. His current favorite things to watch are Sherlock and Inside Out, and he’s looking forward to reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. As part of our third class of international Scholars, Shivam is the first student from SVKM International School in Mumbai, India. He will hold one of the Alice Adele Freese scholarships.
