Biography
Maddie is the first Scholar from Canton High School, where she is proud to have founded a charity organization called Warriors for a Healthy Mind that works to spread awareness and fund resources for mental health. She lives by advice from her mother that to “be good, do good,” and she will continue to lead for the greater good through majors in nonprofit management and law & public policy from the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She chose to attend IU because of the multitude of clubs, activities, and opportunities available on campus, and the ability to combine her love of learning and travel through extensive study abroad opportunities. Her most exhilarating travel memory to date was summiting Mount Tarawera in New Zealand, and she’d love to revisit the country to keep exploring its vastly differing climatic zones. Closer to home, she likes to spend summer days “up north” in Michigan (anywhere above “the thumb”), enjoying lakes, sand dunes, and hiking. Maddie would like to thank her mom for being the strongest person in her life and for supporting her in all that she does while also serving as her best friend and role model. She will hold the Sherrill & Helen Deputy scholarship.
