Biography
Having grown up in Bloomington, Joelle knows firsthand just how many resources and experiences IU provides. She also knew that, by choosing IU, she would have the ability to explore all of her different passions through performance, research, and instruction. As a double major in anthropology and theatre & drama, Joelle is interested in studying performance through the lens of social justice and social science. If given a round-trip ticket to anywhere in the world, she would love to travel to Italy to continue exploring the history she learned about while studying Latin. As far as fictional locations, she’d also like to attend Greendale Community College to witness firsthand the shenanigans from her favorite TV show, Community. Joelle’s real-life “happy place” is the local Goodwill, where she loves to spend afternoons hunting for wacky thrifted clothes. Her not-so-secret passion is being a superfan of the band They Might Be Giants, and she hopes to one day host a radio show or podcast dedicated solely to their large and quirky body of work. She is the twenty-first Scholar from Bloomington High School North and will hold the Lynda Glick Schwartz scholarship.
