Biography
Amangul is part of our second class of international Scholars and our first Scholar ever from Turkmenistan. She was drawn to IU by the wonderful research opportunities available even for incoming and undergraduate students. Amangul will major in economics and also hopes to explore a secondary field in natural science or philosophy. She loves to read adventure novels like Jack London’s The Sea Wolf and Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island, and she regards Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky as her all-time Russian classic literature favorite. Amangul would like to travel to Antarctica to explore the unique environment that not many people have ever seen, or visit Earth’s most biodiverse region, the Amazonian rainforest. She loves ice cream, and her most frequent order is chocolate ice cream covered in chocolate syrup with chocolate chunks! Amangul would like to thank her family for their constant encouragement and her teachers for always believing in her. The best advice they ever gave her was to never be afraid and to believe in herself. She will hold the Thomas Charles Hutton scholarship.
