Sage Hamm

Sage Hamm
Hometown:
Middletown, IN

Biography

Sage’s diverse interests are immediately apparent looking at his shortlist of favorite books: J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, Michael Blaser’s Missing Microbes, and Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. It comes as no surprise then that he ambitiously plans to double major in molecular life science and piano performance, with an outside field in Japanese. He was drawn to IU precisely for its excellence in these fields, including the pioneering medical research programs, the top-ranked Jacobs School of Music, and the strong foreign language departments. As a foodie, he’s also looking forward to sampling the delicious restaurant offerings around Bloomington and would love to travel to Italy in order to eat authentic pizza, pasta, and gelato. Breakfast foods are his special favorite, with crêpes holding a place of honor. He is easily spotted by his penchant for crazy socks, puns, and dad jokes. Sage would like to thank his parents for their support and for pushing him to go beyond his comfort zone; his sister for being his biggest cheerleader; his bosses, mentors, and peers at Conner Prairie’s living history museum for their patient instruction, inexhaustible knowledge, and wise adages; and his teachers Ms. Nagelkirk, Ms. Chi, and Dr. Palmer for their dedication both in the classroom and out. He is the fifth Scholar from the Indiana Academy and will hold the Miles and Marjorie Kanne scholarship.
