Biography
Maddie’s passion for international outreach was cemented during an extended trip to visit a friend in Nepal, which coincided with the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes. Upon returning home, Maddie organized a fundraiser that successfully sponsored a year of education for fifteen young female students in Nepal, an achievement that fills her with pride and gratitude. She wants to continue her work in the global sphere by pursuing studies in international law and institutions, French, and law and public policy through the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and the College of Arts & Sciences. In fact, it was the university’s global-mindedness, including the language flagships and opportunities for study abroad, that first drew Maddie to IU. She is constantly inspired by her great-uncle Tim’s advice to “never aspire to have a job that someone held before you”; hence she hopes to come up with new and creative ideas and leave the world a bit better than she found it. Maddie loves her mom’s chocolate chip cookie recipe, and her task of choice is to sit on the counter and “taste-test” the chocolate chips! Maddie would like to thank her parents and her brother for their constant support of her dreams and for always demonstrating a desire and drive to serve and lead. She is the fourth Scholar from Fishers High School and will hold the Karen & Katherine Biddinger and Elizabeth Kelsey Deer scholarships.
