Biography
Bailey is excited to begin studies in double bass performance at the Jacobs School of Music and chose IU specifically for its flexibility in allowing her to pursue music at a high level without abandoning her academic pursuits, such as American history. She is already well on the way towards fulfilling her dream of becoming a professional musician and has spent several consecutive summers at the prestigious and intensive Perlman Music Program in New York. She also loves to share her passion for music with the world and is a proud volunteer with El Sistema Colorado, an organization that provides after-school music programs in lower income neighborhoods. When not rehearsing, performing, or teaching, Bailey loves all things J. R. R. Tolkien, including the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy and The Hobbit, which contains her favorite laugh-out-loud blunt and obvious quote: “never laugh at live dragons!” She even once tried to teach herself Elvish. Other current literary favorites include The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen and Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. Bailey would like to thank her parents, her sister, and her bass teachers Susan Cahill and Rachel Calin. She is the first Scholar from Kent Denver School and will hold the Bernardo Mendel scholarship.
