Ping Showalter

Hometown:
Bloomington, Indiana

Biography

“It’s as if we’re laughing ourselves alive,” by Melanie Gideon, is Ping’s favorite quote, which seems particularly applicable to her life when she binge-watches her favorite show, The Office. Over the next four years, Ping is most looking forward to the diverse and exciting opportunities and fascinating people with which IU will provide her the opportunity to engage. As the most recent in a long and venerable line of Scholars from Bloomington High School North, Ping knows well what this town and school can supply, including continuing her volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity. Befitting her exploratory major, she displays a wide array of interests including a desire to travel to present-day New Zealand, the historical Golden Age of Greece, and/or Hogwarts. For your summer reading list, Ping recommends A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, The Help by Katherine Stockett, and The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan. She also loves oatmeal cookies – provided that someone else is doing the baking!

Ping will hold the Indiana Bell Telephone scholarship.
