Grace Fridy is pursuing a double major in Political Science and Journalism. She traces her interest in storytelling back to a fourth-grade classroom newspaper project and has since pursued writing, photography, and journalism as tools for expanding perspective and promoting civic understanding. She is especially motivated by examples of resilience, from stories of youth activism to the experiences of her own family members.
In high school, Grace was selected to lead her school’s online news site as editor-in-chief, where she guided the staff to its first Pacemaker Finalist nomination in over five years.
Her list of favorite books includes Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry. She is particularly drawn to Wendell Berry’s depictions of her home state of Kentucky and the intersection of literature and environmental advocacy in his work.
Grace will hold the Alice Adelle Freese Scholarship and the Robert A. Lucas Scholarship.
