Aaron Ferkowicz is pursuing a major in Computational Linguistics. His favorite author is Ursula K. Le Guin, whose writing he values for its stylistic clarity, thematic range, and ability to convey social messages through speculative fiction. A favorite quote of his from Le Guin is: “The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist; a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain.”
He values honesty as a foundational principle, believing that other values depend on it to function meaningfully. Outside of academics, Aaron is interested in origami, a hobby he began in elementary school through a classroom project focused on folding 1,000 paper cranes. He continues to fold them and often leaves tiny cranes behind in different places.
Running is a significant part of Aaron’s life, not only as a sport but as
a personal practice. He describes trail running as a quiet, meditative experience that allows him to focus, reflect, and reset.
Aaron will hold the William and Martha Lea Armstrong Scholarship and the Alice Glick Meshbane Scholarship.
