Kali always keeps an open mind, inspired by this quote from J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, one of her favorite books: “You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”  She is intrigued by the interdisciplinary nature of the new intelligent systems engineering program at IU, and she is looking forward to combining her interests in biology, physics, and computational modeling. She also can’t wait to make new friends and pursue various extracurriculars like IU Dance Marathon. Kali wanted to be a marine biologist or paleontologist when she was a child, but has since shifted her interests to the medical field, especially neuroscience, cardiology, and oncology. Nonetheless, she hopes one day to travel to the Galápagos Islands and see with her own eyes the unique wildlife that Darwin immortalized. Kali, the tenth Scholar from Munster High School, recently delivered the commencement address at her high school graduation and is proud that her words led her class into the next steps in their lives. Kali would like to thank her family for always supporting her and her teachers for providing an excellent education. She will hold the Ruth Hickam and William Rhodes #2 scholarships.
